Challenge #... I've lost count.

Current Theme Song (aka what's playing on my ipod right now): Stille Nacht by the Vienna Boys' Choir (I've been listening to Christmas music all day so shhh).

I wonder how many "challenges" I can possibly take on... (I am feeling a bit like Marty McFly from the second Back to the Future right now). After having a themed month, I feel a little lost without one. However, there is something special going on this month that almost serves as a theme. Color Online has set up an interesting challenge, and (as you are quickly discovering) you know I can't resist a good challenge. *wicked grin* She has pointed out the weighted lack of non-white main characters in books. She has challenged all within hearing to take up the banner and try to review as many books of different ethnicity this month, and not just the token "McBook" of the month.

I found this to be quite a unique and engaging challenge, and as I looked over my repertoire of books I wanted to share with you, I see that several deal with a diverse range of ethnicities (I'm eclectic, I know). This got me stoked. I had wanted to spread them out over time, but now I think I will pick a few choice ones to share with you this month while this challenge is going on. I completely endorse broadening horizons, and I would love to see some of these books come to a more prominent light. Here is a sweet list of YA SF/F books of ethnicity to whet your palette on.

So I am going to try to do as many as I can. Reviewing is something a bit new to me (as you can tell from my one review so far *facepalm*). I won't tell you which book is first, but I may give you a hint. Think hot. Very hot (and a surprising bit of cold). I know, that's no clue at all, but hopefully I will have it up soon, so as to not keep you in suspense. I just have to hopefully nail an interview first.

I had another extreme adventure yesterday (hence why no post - sorry 'bout that). If I can get a picture of it, I'm totally showing you all my newest, latest, and most hot-awesome caper yet. >_< (can that be a scrunched-up face of happy joy?) :)

I'm up for this. I made a resolution to read more fiction with POC in it, but haven't been seeking it out actively enough.

I'm not so good on reviews either! I love to read but can't bring myself to say much besides good.

Love that you're already listening to Christmas Music. I normally try to hold off until October, but I've been known to sneak a song or two in September! : )

Octavia Butler - science fiction writer, can't think of the names of her books, but she writes "diverse" books. Then again, the TV landscape also has a certain lack of diversity as well. Perhaps the challenge is for us aspiring writers to create worlds of diversity. Hmmmm . . .

You are right, however, that it's often hard to find books with non-white characters.

Whoa, what happened to the formatting of my message????

There should be a paragraph break after the Octavia Butler sentence, then the "You are right" sentence should start the next Paragraph, followed by "Then again . . ."

It had such impact when I first wrote it!
