Current Theme Song (aka what's playing on my ipod): Face Down by Katie Todd.
A month of planning, a coat imported all the way from Korea, and hunting at more thrift stores than I'm willing to admit to and it all came down to 24 hours of a whole lot of fun.
And no, no one knew who I was dressed up as (my little sister thought I was Robin Hood at first. And then a hunter. At least she was getting closer, right?)
Presenting - me as KATNISS EVERDEEN
First, the angry, stern pose with a lot of soul (at least that was what I was going for. Um, not quite sure if I managed that one...):
And here is me just happy (pretty much reflecting how I feel inside right now):
But even cooler is the fact that one of my reader's daughters dressed up as Katniss for Halloween too, and she has graciously let me show pictures!
Well, what do you think? Don't we make an imposing bunch?
(And for fun, D.M. Cornish, author of Monster Blood Tattoo has pictures of one of his neighbor kids who dressed up as one of his book characters. So cute!). Any Halloween pictures you want to share? Send them away, I'll post them up.
Happy Halloween - Katniss Everdeen style!

Hmm...maybe you should audition for the movie. Actually--no--stay away from Hollywood, you are WAY too nice to go to that awful, icky place. :) Love the pics though!
I love it! The costume turned out great. I hope more people read the books now because they're wondering who you were!:)
Cute costume and nice pictures!
also, you've won an award on my blog :)
Shannon - *Blush* Thanks Shannon, you are too sweet. I have taken an acting class, but I think I will let such an incredible role be filled by the big leaguers.
GreenBean - Thanks so much! I really loved wearing. Giddy, you might say. And actually, I think I do have a couple of converts, one being my sister once I described the book to her!
Kirthi - Thank you so much! I'm heading over to your blog right now.
So cute Heather!
Oh these pictures are awesome! You are a perfect Katniss. So would you choose Gale of Peeta?
Wow! You look awesome! What a great idea to dress up as Katniss!
Fab fab fab
You are dead on!
You go girl!
Man, I should've thought of that!
Ashley!!!! You have a blog now! Oh my goodness, how did you find this little piece of the world? (Sorry, this is a squeeing college roommate right now).
PJ - A perfect Katniss? I don't know about that, but I sure had a lot of fun. And I am keeping mum on the Gale or Peeta thing. I have a preference, but mum is the word. ;)
Brizmus - thanks for saying so! It was way fun putting the pieces together. I already have someone in mind for next year, but I can't say who yet until I can figure out if I can learn all the I need to to make her costume (it's a wee bit more complex).
Juju - Dead on? What a compliment! Thank you so much Juju!
Lenore - There's always next year! The last book will be out and there are so many costumes to choose from (thank you Cinna!) :D
You look great! You pulled off the stern and soulful look perfectly. As promised, here I am as the caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland.
WOW! That looks awesome! I love how you both paid such good attention to detail. It looks BRILLIANT.
Jazz - Thank you so much and can I say you look FANTASTIC? Seriously, that costume is so good. I love your interpretation of the caterpillar.
Beth - The details make everything I've discovered. They make a book come alive and they make a costume pop. Thanks so much!
Hi! I saw your pictures, and I think they are cute! I dressed up like Katniss for Halloween too! It was soo much fun!
Lakin - Did you? Which costume did you use? Ah, so many good ones to choose from. :)
Lakin - any pix? : )
robind
nooo i envisioned Katniss way different. i've been lookin around and so far all of the Katnisses i see dont look fit for it. also these clothes ad stuff people are coming up with are very ugly -.+
Yea everyone's looks waaay too mid-evil for my taste. Blegh. Its just too usual, and too typical.
Both Anons - thanks for commenting. Katniss wears many costumes in The Hunger Games, but this is indeed her tribute costume in the first Games.
I gave a blog post earlier about how to create a character costume and included a quote from the book on what she looked like. I tried to make the shirt (modern curve neck), pants (corduroy and not medieval leather), and coat especially feel more modern and less "medieval". I was quite conscious of those feelings as well. The UK cover also has an interesting interpretation of what it could be. I'm curious, what different do you envision her as?
And of course, this was all for fun.
Hi Heather,
I came across this blog post while googling Katniss Halloween costumes. I also made a Girl on Fire costume for my daughters this year (just one costume, but I have pictures of both of them wearing it!) -- it was a lot of fun, and they said they were instantly recognizable to anyone who had read the book (which includes many more people this year than you would presumably have come across last year!). Anyway, your costume looks great (and is completely different from what I came up with).
I love your Katniss costume! I'm going to be Katniss at Comic Con this year, and your pictures were great inspiration.
